Do people actually enjoy living in bitterly cold climates like New England or Canada?

I live in Chicago, and I personally love the cold, snowy winters we get here. (My only problem is with ice, but I'm used to walking on it.) Things are very peaceful, quiet, etc. (Some people call it an "eerie silence", but I don't agree with them.) Plus, you are never too old to fling a snowball or two. ;-)
