Why does he fib to get my attention?

So,I know I make my boyfriend seem like a jerk...he isn't one,I'm just trying to get some outsider's opinions on certain things. When my boyfriend and I first started dating he tried to convince me he was in famous bands and a whole lot of other nonsense. Now whenever he talks about meeting a band or seeing some bands in concert I don't believe him. I don't think he's ever lied about anything serious,but I've seen him lie easily to his mom before. I guess I just want to know why he lies to get my attention and if I should be worried about him lying about bigger things?
