Guys only plz: Question regarding guys sharing a hotel room on a roadtrip...?

My 3 best buddies and I planned a road trip to Cali to run in a 10k race we do each year and as always we get a hotel room with two beds (2 guys to a bed). 2 of my buddies dropped out last minute and offered their spots to people they knew from work or something along those lines. The first night in the hotel, my buddy and I agreed to share a bed and when I was ready to go to sleep, I did my usual routine which includes stripping down to my tighty whities to sleep in. One of the fill-in guys got all hurt and said he thinks it was rude of me not to ask everyone in the room if they were comfortable with me sleeping in my briefs. I explained to him that since we are all dudes and have at some point seen another dude in their underwear, it shouldn't be a big deal. The next night he got his own room with the other fill-in and then bitched and moaned back to my buddies about how rude and inconsiderate I was. Does anyone else think that a guy should have to take a poll to make sure no man is so uncomfortable with another man sleeping in their underwear or was that guy the biggest tool on the earth?
