How to bet on horses?
If you are in the US....Here is beginner's 101. First, treat it as fun. When you go to a track, buy a program...It will look foreign at first. The main thing is get familiar with the program layout..( they are the same no matter where you go ). The favorites of each race will be listed at the top of the page. But for now just get used to looking over the program and walking up to the window to place a bet. Start with the easiest ... A "$ 2.00 BET TO WIN". Get in the $2.00 window line...when it is your turn you say in this order...$2.00 on Track ( you can bet on other tracks besides the one your at )...race #... horse #. In short " $2.00, Santa Anita, 4th race, 6 horse." Once you get comfortable placing a simple bet...the sky is the limit, as you can tell from the other posts. I recommend you buy a "The Racing Form" it will teach you how to read all those numbers & abbreviations. Which will give you an educated edge in placing a bet. It is fun...just start slow ! Good Luck.
