I’m ready to accept Jesus as a great moral teacher, but I don’t accept his claim to be God.?

I was about to ask, "You want to join the JW's?" but now that I have read the details, I have only one question to ask. How do you know it really happened that way? I'm sure he must have made a huge impact on the people to have a religios following after him going strong to this day but maybe some of his followers who wrote the gospels.... or tranlsated them long after that added things to it.
