Treating minor wounds on small children?

My 2yr old son and I were playing in the yard and I accidentally hit him in the spine with a post hole digger. He was bleeding a little so I poured alcohol on it to clean it and he just started screaming like a girl and crying like a baby. Then he started taking swings at me and my smoke fell down his diaper and burned him in a few places before I could spray him with the hose. I am concerned what the doctor may think if I bring him in with his spine laceration, diaper area burns and black eye. Is there a good book I could read to learn proper 1st aid with out involving the doctor or my terrible fat wife?
